( China Daily ) Updated: 2012-09-14 14:17:20

Praised by conductor Karajan as one of the best five violinists of the 20th century, Italy's treasure Salvatore Accardo is revisiting China to give tour recitals this September, after his last visit to the country 11 years ago.

Known for his interpretations of Paganini, Accardo is known as the "Paganini of the present age". The violinist won first prize at the Paganini Competition in Genoa in 1958 at the age of 17. And he has recorded all the works of Paganini, showcasing his splendid skills.

Passionate about opera, Accardo's performance is emotional and dramatic. The audience will be grabbed by the rich changes in timbre.

Accardo will surprise Chinese audiences by playing part of the Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto.

Guangzhou is the first stop of Accardo's tour around China. After the recital in the city on Sept 20, Accardo will go on to stage performances at Shanghai Oriental Art Center on Sept 21 and at Beijing Concert Hall on Sept 23.

8 pm, Sept 20. Symphony Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, 33 Qingbo Lu, Ersha Island, Yuexiu district, Guangzhou. 020-8735-2222.
