The closing ceremony of the 6th Beijing College Students Drama Festival was held at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing on Nov 7.
Miss Julie by the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts won the top award.
The winning performance — based on Miss Julie, one of Swedish playwright August Strindberg's most representative works written in 1888 — was a Yuju Opera, a traditional opera form that originated in Henan province during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
It was written and directed by Wang Shaojun, the director of the acting department at the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts.
The production also won awards for costume design and best actress.
The drama festival, which kicked off on Oct 27, brought together eight productions, including Voyage from the University of International Business and Economics, which won the award for best director; and Shun Kin from Tsinghua University, which won the award for script-writing.
