"The workshop is an innovative program to promote Chinese culture across the world. Through discussion and information sharing on film and TV translation and dubbing between China and other countries, China's own art and technique in this field can be better promoted. Plus Chinese culture can also be better understood," Zhu said.
"Despite the differences in culture and language, our inner needs and cultural aspirations are similar. And nice cultural works should not be abided in certain countries. Continuous communications and in-depth dialogues can break the barriers of culture and language differences."
Zhou said: "Through film and TV productions, Chinese culture could be better known around the world. In recent years, Chinese film and TV industries have being developed at a fast speed. In 2015, China produced 16,000 episodes of TV series, 140,000 minutes of animations and 686 films. The total national box office reached 44.07 billion yuan ($6.7 billion). China has become an important supplier of film and TV productions. Only with the support of better translation and dubbing, Chinese film and TV can let more people know stories about China around the world."
Qi noted that audiovisual translation and dubbing have played an important role when Chinese culture "goes out". He also emphasized that 160,000 international students from more than 180 countries and regions have gone through BLCU programs. Many of them grew up watching Chinese kung fu films and have a strong interest in Chinese culture.
