Training for Chinese teachers launches in Dalian

The training of Chinese teachers who will go to work as volunteers for 57 Confucius Institutes in some 22 countries opened in Dalian University of Foreign Languages in Liaoning province on May 9.

Trainees are 174 Chinese teachers from 55 universities and colleges that include Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing Language and Culture University. They will receive a 6-week training course on teaching Chinese as a foreign language and traditional Chinese culture.

At present, there are 500 Confucius Institutes and more than 1000 Confucius Classes in junior and elementary schools in 138 countries. The total number of students learning Chinese through them is 2 million.
