Established in early 2008, the Beijing Contemporary Dance Theatre is the first contemporary ballet troupe in the country. For the purpose of "seeking spirituality, pursuing transcendence", the members bend themselves to create high level original contemporary ballet, and to set up a new cultural symbol of Beijing.

The Nightingale and the Rose is a creative gift for the 7th anniversary of Beijing Contemporary Dance Theatre. Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s fairy tale, Wang Yuanyuan, head of the troupe, hopes that audience will think more about love and sense of worth in modern society through the performance.
