Ex-leader of Shanxi's capital gets life in prison for corruption
The executive vice-president of the China Association for Science and Technology was convicted of bribery amounting to nearly 100 million yuan ($14.9 million) and sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.
Shen Weichen, 60, was also stripped of political rights for life, and the court ruled that all his personal assets must be confiscated, according to Changzhou Intermediate People's Court in Jiangsu province.
The ill-gotten gains, which Shen acquired in his former position as top leader of Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, were turned over to the state, the court said in a statement.
