China Daily | Updated: 2016-08-26 08:32

Item from Aug 26, 1993, in China Daily: Workers are repairing a 30-meter section of the Great Wall that collapsed on Aug 14 because of torrential rains and hundreds of years of neglect, say officials at the Beijing relics bureau.

The section of the wall at Simatai, about 150 kilometers northeast of Beijing, is scheduled to reopen to the public on Sept 30.

The Great Wall, one of the world's ancient wonders, is under attack from both man and nature.
