Chinese treasures provide window of understanding for Czech residents
A collection of important Chinese relics, including more than 10 national top-level relics, such the terracotta warriors of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) and tri-colored glazed pottery figures of the Tang dynasty (AD 618-907), is currently on display at Prague Castle in the Czech Republic.
The exhibition, named "Treasures of Ancient China", runs from August 8 to Nov 11. It has gathered 90 sets, totaling 161 pieces, of rare heritage pieces from the collection of nationally influential museums, such as the Shaanxi History Museum. The show was organized by the Exchange Center for Cultural Relics of China and the Czech Association for Friendship with Chinese People. The Czech Republic has paid great attention to the exhibition, which is held under the auspices of its president, Milos Zeman. The exhibition site, Prague Castle, is the location of the president's office and is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The exhibition receives an average of 400 visitors a day, according to estimates by the local museum.
Yao An, vice-director of the exchange center, said the exhibition is divided into three parts according to historical timeline, extending from pre-history eras to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Featuring excavated pieces such as large antique bronzeware, the life-like terracotta warriors, the glazed pottery pieces and delicate items from royal collections, the exhibit also covers a wide range of social aspects, including daily life, the etiquette system and religion.
