UK did little for democracy in HK

By making the decision on Hong Kong's election reform, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China is confident that it will get wide support from the Hong Kong people because it is in accordance with their interests. The opposition forces might have their own ideas, but they are against the 500 million voters and 700 million residents in Hong Kong and their forces are rather weak.

During its 150 years of colonial rule in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom made no contribution at all to building up democracy in the colony. Hong Kong people now enjoy democracy because that's their legal right according to the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which was passed by the National People's Congress. Democracy in Hong Kong is a purely domestic affair and we don't need any foreign interference.
