Merkel: 'Correct grasp of history' is vital
Citing her own country as an example, visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated the importance of the correct understanding of history.
Merkel made the remarks in her keynote speech on Tuesday at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
When asked about Japan's attitude toward World War II, Merkel said although she isn't in a position to comment on Japan's government policy, she said "it is important to reflect on history and not to let the tragedy repeat".
