Elite unit keeps shooting despite smog

China Daily | Updated: 2014-03-01 08:21

The continuous smog in Beijing have not interrupted shooting training for an elite PLA regiment stationed near the capital, PLA Daily said in a recent article.

Many soldiers in the regiment are sharpshooters capable of taking aim regardless of poor visibility caused by air pollution, the newspaper said, adding that the unit is often showcased by the Chinese military for the benefit of foreign visitors.

Over the past few days, North China suffered its worst air pollution crisis in months. In Beijing, which was shrouded in smog for more than a week, authorities raised the pollution alert to the second-highest level - "orange" - for the first time on Feb 21. The noxious haze abated on Wednesday evening after a rain shower.
