Scarcity of facilities for elderly worries urban residents

By He Dan | China Daily | Updated: 2014-03-01 08:21

Most urban residents said they want to spend their senior years at home with assistance in communities, but they are frustrated that there are not enough community-based senior care facilities, according to a survey released on Thursday.

About 90 percent of the respondents said they would prefer elderly care facilities in their communities that they can walk to within 15 minutes.

The survey, jointly conducted by three organizations including the China Research Center on Aging, polled more than 10,000 urban residents last year through a questionnaire in 10 major cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
