Drug busts around the world
In September 2013, nine people were arrested in the biggest ever cocaine bust in France. Police seized almost 1.4 metric tons of cocaine, worth around 200 million euros ($272 million), that had been smuggled into the country on an Air France flight from Venezuela. The seizure was the result of cooperation between the security forces in France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
In December 2013, the UK National Crime Agency released photos of an abandoned Jaguar car containing roughly 200 kg of heroin with a street value of 40 million pounds ($65 million). The drugs had been stuffed into almost every available space, including the fenders, central console, wheel arches and engine.
In December 2013, Spanish police arrested Andres Lopez Elorza, 44, who was suspected of transport liquid heroin between Colombia and the US through the use of puppies into which bags containing the drug had been surgically implanted
