Jilin's former vice-governor to stand trial

China Daily | Updated: 2013-09-03 07:23

Tian Xueren, former vice-governor of Jilin province, has been charged with taking bribes of 20 million yuan ($3.3 million), and a court trial is expected soon, prosecutors at Beijing's No 1 People's Procuratorate said on Monday.

Tian, who served as Jilin vice-governor from 2004 to 2008, has been accused of abusing his power to provide favors related to promotions and business opportunities to about 10 people from 1995 to 2011. Prosecutors said he accepted bribes 85 times.

For example, Tian allegedly received more than 12.17 million yuan in bribes from a chairman of a medical company in the province between April 2005 and August 2010.
