By Wu Wencong in Shenzhen and Kahon Chan in Hong Kong | China Daily | Updated: 2012-11-21 08:10

After the official founding of South University of Science and Technology in September, construction began on another university to which the Shenzhen government attaches great importance: The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen Campus).

The move indicates the authorities' determination to raise the quality of higher education in the city.

According to the Shenzhen Education Bureau, there were 70,000 university students in the city in 2011. The local government plans to raise the number to 200,000 by 2020.
