LONDON/BRUSSELS - European leaders said that while Osama bin Laden's death was a "major achievement" in the fight against terrorism and made the world "a safer place", Europe still has "any number" of al-Qaida targets.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said on Monday in a joint statement that bin Laden's killing was "a major achievement in our efforts to rid the world of terrorism".
"His death makes the world a safer place and shows that such crimes do not remain unpunished."
