WikiLeaks?Assange is granted bail by UK

China Daily | Updated: 2010-12-17 08:00

LONDON - London's High Court on Thursday upheld the decision to grant bail to WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange, who is fighting extradition to Sweden over allegations of sex crimes.

A lower court on Tuesday had ruled the 39-year-old could be freed on bail under strict conditions, but prosecutors appealed against that decision.

Assange has already spent more than a week in prison following his surrender to British police over a Swedish sex-crimes warrant. He denies any wrongdoing but has refused to voluntarily surrender to Sweden's request to extradite him for questioning.
