Farmer turns climate activist

Environmental organizations are known to intensify their campaigns before UN climate change conferences. But now a Chinese farmer has taken up the cause by issuing an advertisement in The Wall Street Journal, urging countries to agree to a deal at the climate conference in Cancun, Mexico, to reduce carbon emission, says an article in China Business News. Excerpts:

Chen Faqing is an ordinary farmer in Zhejiang province but he is more passionate about the environment than others. He had surprised the world earlier, too, by suing former United States president George Bush for his refusal to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Chen's actions may seem out of tune with the traditional image of a Chinese farmer but it certainly reflects his concern for the environment.
