China Daily | Updated: 2010-08-14 08:20

Doctors broke news prior to British study

MUMBAI - Indian doctors warned earlier this year that the country was facing the threat of a new multi-resistant "superbug" - months before a British study that has been condemned for scaremongering by New Delhi.

A team of researchers from the private Hinduja hospital in Mumbai studied 24 infection cases between August and November last year and said they found 22 incidences of NDM-1 or "New Delhi metallo-lactamase-1" producing bacteria.
