Residents and nature happy by village relocation

A total of 221 villages have disappeared from the map of Beijing, following a relocation exercise that involved moving people from mountainous areas to locations with better infrastructure.

Local authorities said 50,000 people have so far been affected, but another 80 villages are involved and the exercise will be completed next year.

More than 23,000 families with 68,000 people will be affected in total.
