Dueling elections at Jianwai SOHO

The disarray for residents of the Jianwai SOHO complex is unlikely to abate any time soon, as two groups are now vying to be recognized as the official residents' committee.

The committee represents all residential property owners and makes decisions on how to run the community, including awarding the annual property management contract, which at Jianwai SOHO is worth 57 million yuan a year.

The most recent Jianwai SOHO residents' committees folded amid accusations of corruption and mismanagement before its term was up in February 2009, leaving the question of who should be on the next committee up in the air - the outgoing committee is supposed to organize the election for the next committee.
