Jiangsu province passes first local regulation on charity

China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-25 07:51

China's first local regulation on charity, the Jiangsu Charity Promotion Act, will take effect in the province on May 1 to further regulate and encourage charity activities.

The act, divided into eight chapters and 60 articles, covers the rules on charity organizations, donations, trusts, volunteers' services, awards and charity culture and will clarify legal responsibilities.

According to the act adopted by local legislature last Thursday, donors are divided into three categories - specific charity organizations, organizations that can carry out fund-raising activities under specific laws and regulations, and companies or individuals who carry out donations under certain circumstances within the company or the community to help a certain person.
