UN climate draft texts challenged

By Li Xing and Sun Xiaohua | China Daily | Updated: 2009-12-17 07:57

COPENHAGEN: Developing countries challenged draft texts at the UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen that they said favored Western nations and possibly moved decision-making on the summit's final draft to the conference presidency instead of working groups of delegates.

China's chief climate change negotiator, Su Wei, said developing countries would not accept "texts from the sky," and insisted that the integrity of the Kyoto Protocol must be preserved.

The controversy shook the conference all the way to the top as world leaders arrived to push for a final deal.
