Winter Olympics bid dropped

China has decided not to submit a bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2018 after both Harbin and Changchun were ruled out as possible host cities. Xinhua News Agency said Harbin, in Heilongjiang province, was turned down by China's sports governing body. The organization said the city lacked the required infrastructure. The Beijing Legal Evening News said the State Administration of Sports had also turned down a bid proposal from Changchun, Jilin province.
