Martifer eyes up prospects in UK, US
LISBON: Martifer SGPS SA, which makes metal towers for General Electric Co and Vestas Wind Systems A/S windmills, said it may bid for metal-structure contracts in the UK and plans to expand in the US renewable-energy market.
"The UK is a market with potential", although "difficult to enter", Vice Chairman Jorge Martins said in an interview at the company's Lisbon office. "It's the most relevant market in Europe" for a wide variety of metal structures, including components in buildings and bridges.
The Portuguese company won contracts this year to build the metallic structures for a Renault factory in Morocco and Repsol YPF SA's Madrid headquarters and plans to set up its second factory to produce wind-turbine towers with partner Hirschfield Industries in Texas.
