Media, entertainment spur Ontario's economy
As Canada's economy shifts its emphasis from goods to knowledge-based industries, creative media has emerged as one of Ontario's fastest growing sectors. To support the rapid progress of its entertainment industry, the provincial government established the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) in 2000.
A catalyst for investment, job creation and original content production in all areas of creative media and entertainment, OMDC focuses on the province's six main entertainment sectors - film, television, book and magazine publishing, music and interactive digital media.
"Ontario has strength in all areas of the entertainment and creative cluster. As we continue to grow domestically, we are also expanding our international profile as a competitive region for creative media," said President and CEO Karen Thorne-Stone.
