Kim believed DPRK would disarm

SEOUL: Former Republic of Korea president Kim Dae-jung, in what was one of his last media interviews, said he believed a deal could be reached that would lead to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea giving up its nuclear weapons.

Kim, who died yesterday at 85, spoke to Reuters on June 23 amid reports DPRK leader Kim Jong-il was moving to anoint his youngest son as successor and following a nuclear test the previous month which earned Pyongyang further international sanction.
