Sarkozy to meet Iran's FM

PARIS: French President Nicolas Sarkozy will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki today in Paris to discuss Iran's nuclear programme, Sarkozy's office said yesterday.

"The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss talks which the six (world powers) wish to re-launch with Iran on the question of nuclear proliferation," the Elysee said in a statement, referring to Germany, China, the United States, France, Britain and Russia.

Bilateral encounters at such a senior level between Iran and one of the countries involved in the nuclear issue are rare.
