China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-08 07:44

YICHANG, Hubei: The Three Gorges Project, the world's largest hydroelectric facility, has generated 300 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity since its first turbine generator began operating in July 2003.

It reached the benchmark at 2:03 am yesterday, the China Three Gorges Project Corp said.

The project's electricity output to date was equivalent to 8.8 percent of the country's total consumption last year, or 3.4 trillion kWh, said the China Electricity Council, a group of power-generation enterprises and institutions.
