ID check invades our privacy?

Peking University has no right to ask visitors to swipe their ID cards before entering the campus, says an article on the website www.china.com.cn. The following is an excerpt:
With the start of the new semester, Peking University has kicked off a new system that requires visitors to swipe their ID cards in a machine before entering the campus.
Though it may seem the university has progressed from the old hand-written method of visitor registration to a more chick and technologically enhanced system, it invades our right to privacy in a way.
