Engineer released by Taliban

ISLAMABAD: A Chinese engineer, released by the Taliban in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, reached the Chinese embassy in Islamabad yesterday morning.

Long Xiaowei (above), kidnapped by the Taliban in Pakistan last August, met with China's ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui.

Thanking the Pakistani authorities for their help in getting Long's release, Luo said the embassy would intensify efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
