59 killed in Bangkok nightclub fire

A fire raced through a two-story nightclub packed with hundreds of well-heeled New Year revelers in Bangkok early yesterday, killing at least 59 people as they stampeded to escape the raging flames.

More than 200 people, including 35 foreigners, were injured.

Several witnesses said a fireworks display during the New Year's countdown ignited the blaze.
