China Daily | Updated: 2008-12-20 07:52

The probe into the Siemens bribery case in China can help strengthen the country's capacity of fighting against commercial corruption, says an article in the Beijing News. Following is an excerpt:

According to the US Justice Department documents, the shocking Siemens bribery case has already spread its tentacles in China, with charges for bribing officials of the transportation, power transmission and distribution, and healthcare industries.

Early this year, a doctor from a hospital in Jilin province was sentenced to jail for 14 years for taking $60,000 in bribe from Siemens. Siemens has also reportedly bribed five Chinese State-owned hospitals $14.4 million.
