Prodigy kicks off Sichuan charity concert

China has a proud history of producing prodigies and Xie Nan is one of them. She played Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor at the age of a in the Guangdong Teenager's Music Competition and finished second. At 16, she took part in the Wieniawski International Violin Competition and was honored with the only Wieniawski Merit at the event. Next week the young violinist will give a concert with pianist Huang Yameng and viola player Su Zhen at Forbidden City Concert Hall.

The program includes Corelli's Sonata No 12 in D Minor; Brahms' Sonata No 1 in G Major; Massenet's Meditation Tartini: The Devil's Trill and others.

The concert kicks off the project Music Class launched by the Forbidden City Concert Hall and the China Council for the Promotion of the Culture in the Poverty-stricken Areas. The box office proceeds will be donated to build music classes in earthquake-hit Sichuan.
