Wei to head world volleyball federation

Fifty years ago, Wei Jizhong decided to give up further study of French literature and join the State Sports Commission.

Now, the 71-year-old Shanghai native is set to become the first Chinese president of a major international sports federation.

Wei will take over as president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) after the Olympic Games, which he helped to bring to Beijing.
