Education model

China Daily | Updated: 2007-09-01 07:42

Examination-oriented education reform finally materialized with changes to the Beijing senior high school curriculum.

Rather than just ram down students' throats the subjects related to college entrance examinations in the past, a credit system will be employed to provide students with much more choice in the subject of science and liberal arts.

Under the old model, students learned to pass examinations. All are learning the same subjects and take the same examinations. As a result, the scores are the sole benchmark as to whether a student is successful or not. Students are passively shaped by the needs of the education model and therefore do not pursue their own way of development according to their own interest and characteristics.
