Delegates from Bologna University, one of the world's oldest universities, were also present, along with the Italian government's consular and embassy representatives.
The significance of Tongji University's Centennial Celebrations was underscored by the announcement of the appointment of the university's long serving president, Wan Gang, as Minister of Science and Technology.
As part of the celebrations, Emilia Romagna showcased its distinctive features through an exhibition titled "Italian Excellence".
Minister Wan Gang was guided through the exhibits by Italian Ambassador Riccardo Sessa and Emilia Romagna Regional Minister Duccio Campagnoli, who was joined by the Bologna University Vice-President, Professor Roberto Grandi.
The exhibition highlighted the region's diversity, with displays ranging from the industrial sector, food and wine, to health and wellness products, and automotive sectors.
The stand was dominated by world renowned car manufacturer Ferrari and bike producer Ducati, both based in Emilia Romagna, which is often referred to as "The Land of Motors".
Ferrari displayed their F430 model, with Ducati importing 2 bikes especially for the event from Italy: one the Ducati Superbike 1098 and the other the more commercial Ducati Monster 695.
A special section of the exhibition was also dedicated to the fitness and wellness company Technogym, who is the exclusive supplier of fitness equipment for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
