Iconic wine marks start of luxury dining season(Shanghai Daily)
Updated: 2008-03-25 14:01 When it comes to outstanding luxury hotels, few do it better than the St Regis. The high-end Starwood brand tailors unforgettable experiences for the discerning guest, and with its Aficionado program, St Regis hotels places the creme de le creme of luxury living on your table. Last week the brand's local property celebrated the first Aficionado dinner of the year with a Penfolds Grange dinner. About 20 lovers of the technically brilliant Australian wine turned up at flagship Italian diner Danieli's for a four-course feast paired with some of the best drops the land "Down Under" has to offer. Considered one of the most iconic wine brands to emerge from the New World, Penfolds has garnered a firm following among wine lovers all over the world for it multi-regional drops and dedication to excellence. While many continue to doubt the aging potential of non-European wines, a few stand out from the easy-drinking labels that adorn supermarket shelves. Among them is Grange, quite possibly one of the finest wines made in Oz and definitely one of the most exotic. Few would consider the shiraz grape to be capable of long-lasting excellence, but Grange turns the concept totally on its head. Better still, current chief wine maker Peter Gago has crafted a wine, sourced from Penfold's sites across the country that drinks well young and responds well to age. |
