Yves Roy: Director/ Actor

This city offers a wide variety of both Shanghainese and foreign style restaurants. Take your pick! Sadly, I am often disappointed with many of these restaurants, and I'm not talking about the service. The foreign-style restaurants often fall far below my expectations in quality, preparation and general lack of bang for your buck. That said, there are several places that I can happily recommend. Xintotei(Japanese) is very popular with the local Japanese crowd. An insider turned me on to it and I've never left disappointed. The food is fantastic and they have a stunning selection of Sake to choose from. I'd say one of the best in town. Next is Vedas(Indian / Pakistani). Authentic Indian food rich in texture, color and full of taste. As close as you can get to India without leaving China. And finally, Jiaozi Guan on Wuding Xi Lu and Wanhangdu Lu. The food is always fresh and well prepared, even if you're showing up at 2am. Be sure to get a taste of the Chef's Favorite Pork.
