Local residents and visitors alike hankering for local fare could do worse than to check out the newest Yangzhou Restaurant in Pudong. The latest addition to the chain is a huge space for 300 in the main hall and 11 exquisite VIP rooms in the back.
No expense has been spared in the renovation of the 2,000-square-meter Pudong outlet, with an impressive attention to detail. Traditional paintings and calligraphy adorn the walls while some rooms open onto a small courtyard, complete with rock formations and running streams.
Those who have visited the Jiangsu Province city will recognize influences in the neoclassical decor. Each room is named after famous gardens within the former major trade exchange center for salt.
Yangzhou Restaurant is an old name in Shanghai. Originally set up by famed chef Mo Youcai, the 81-year old recently paid a visit to the new outlet's kitchen to show his younger chefs that he still knew a thing or two about cooking.
The brand was given a shot in the arm in 2004 when Shanghai Yangzhou Restaurant Corporation opened a branch on Fujian Road, followed by a branch on Xitai Road not long after and on Fuxing Road last year. With the latest addition, the chain has major districts covered, catering its fare to adoring fans.
The mention of Yanzhou cuisine usually has people instantly salivating over the prospect of Yangzhou fried rice. A popular dish not only over China but also in Chinese restaurants around the world. |
