Cool ending for Sunday brunchBy Tan Weiyun (Shanghai Daily)Updated: 2007-06-04 10:09 With two domed Movenpick ice cream freezers displaying up to 19 flavors and made fresh on the premises, the Renaissance Cafe seems ready made for summer crowds looking to cool off on Sunday afternoons. Known as the Ferrari of the ice cream world, the dreamy Swiss frozen treats come in a variety of choices that will appeal to every taste, even to those without a sweet tooth. At the cafe in the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel, classic flavors are on offer. They range from mint chocolate and almond amaretto to espresso croquant and maple walnut, topped with fresh kiwi or a thin layer of lemon. Others are coated with crushed meringue, decorated with drizzled chocolate or soaked in vanilla, strawberry and lychee sauce, among others. Authenticated by the "All Natural" label that guarantees the absence of artificial colorants and additives, Movenpick of Switzerland ensures high quality, freshness and natural flavor. It is combined with an uncompromising choice of the very best ingredients. The milk, cream, chocolate and caramel are all from Switzerland, the vanilla comes from Madagascar and the pistachios from Italy. At the Honqqiao-area hotel, its Sunday brunch allows patrons to indulge in the fruity, fresh and creamy ice cream buffet, along with a scrumptious spread of local and international favorites. There are loads of seafood, creamy pastas, spicy Indian fare, pancakes and a wide variety of freshly-made sushi and sashimi. Summer dining just got cooler and tastier with the hotel's new BBQ Grill and Beer Corner. With the ice cream offering, diners can either keep it simple with a scoop and a topping or two - or lavish it atop a plate of steaming hot crepes or waffles. In all, you can indulge in more than 150 mouthwatering combinations. An even bigger menu of finely-selected, free-flow premium bubbly and beverages, including red and white wine, cocktails, soft drinks, fruit juice, coffee and tea complement the Sunday feast. The cafe features cute bunny balloons tied to almost every dining table, while its newly opened Kid's Area has loads of comic books and toys. Such a setting makes it a fine place for family get togethers all the while keeping the little ones amply occupied. The Sunday Brunch Temptations is 258 yuan (US$33) for adults and 118 yuan for children. Kids under five years eat free. All prices subject to 15 percent surcharge.
