Music factoryImagine the same layout as Nameless Highland—same entrance, stage, bar, bathroom and the U shaped second floor—only one size smaller.

Imagine the same style of bands on stage-punk, funk, heavy metal and folk-only B-grade. Imagine the same kind of decor-pictures and posters of rockers on the walls-only with better lighting. Imagine the same crowds of kids-punks, skinheads, rock chicks-only younger. Welcome to Nameless Highland, Beijing south. Cocktails are cheap (either 15yuan or 20yuan) and so is the door fee, which comes with free CD. Both the cocktails and the draft beers (15yuan and buy one get one free when shows are on) taste suspiciously light, which at least prevents the kids from dehydrating in the mosh pit. The owner, a guitarist affectionately known as Brother Chuan, has coached many a rocker on guitar. HX is his base where he rehearses during the day and puts on shows nightly on weekends. Sometimes you'll see some well-known bands on stage, like Misandao or Arrows Made of Desire, who played on opening night.

Regardless, everyone here is either a rocker, a rocker's friend or a rocker's girlfriend. When the show is over, the house gives you a lift home, or at least to the right bus stop. Half drunk and stuffed in the van, it's where the most sincere rock friendships start.
