Peter's Tex Mex new resto in Lido is layed out like the cucina of a rambling
hacienda. Bright colors and rustic murals adorn the walls. There are spotless
white cupboards, an open-plan bar and a play pen for the kiddies.
The waitstaff wear lonestar shirts and are adept at servicing the
predominantly foreign clientele. The menu is thick, sticks to standard,
Americanized Mexican dishes and with huge portions and numerous desserts is
geared toward families. Start with the nine-layer dip (RMB56). It sounds heavy,
but it's not. The Texan burrito (RMB48) was just a burrito, so instead go for a
chimichanga (RMB69), moist and packed with flavors. There's also a kid's menu
with scaled down portions and prices for the ninos. Peter's is, at heart, a
family joint, because you'll need a little haizi qi to guiltlessly go for their
many desserts. We loved the chocolate mint milkshake (RMB22), eaten with a
spoon. The Mexican fried ice cream (RMB25), however, despite the caramel
drizzle, is just a scoop of vanilla with chewy corn flakes pasted on it. There's
a breakfast menu (pancakes for RMB26) and happy hour prices on margaritas every
day from 5:30-7pm.
