Heaven of wines

(That's beijing)

We arrived at the homey Saporia d'Italia wine bar, ready for some oeno-therapy. Feeling lucky, we closed our eyes and pointed at the exhaustive menu of wines.

Bottles range from RMB 123-2,900, while those under RMB 300 can be sold by the glass. Our Chianti did not disappoint, and after a couple of rounds, we looked forward to our spaghetti with tomatoes and basil (RMB 25). Though slightly giddy with wine, we could not ignore that the spaghetti was still raw and the tomato sauce sour, heavy with salt and with not a hint of herbs. In retrospect, we shouldn't have bothered, but we also ordered panna cotta (RMB 35) in balsamic vinegar sauce. The small portion and one-dimensional sweetness made us realize that Saporia should stick to what it knows best - showcasing Italian wines in Beijing. They also have a wine club, and members can enjoy regular tastings from Saporia's sizeable collection.
