From Taiwan, with love

Not quite a bar, not quite a restaurant, Zui Hong Lou lays comfortably somewhere in between. Nestled into the north side of Nanluoguxiang, this place is all things Taiwan. Photos of the island deck the walls (all taken by friends of the owner), Taiwan food products and drink imports (apricot milk: RMB15; Taiwan beer: RMB18 a can) that aren't widely available on the mainland are bountiful here and the menu is chock full of specialty bar foods and snacks (pork sausage: RMB22; fried tofu strands: RMB16).

The owner, naturally a Taiwanese native, is somewhat of a character himself. A very kind and hip older guy, he has dabbled in motocross (he's got the pics to prove it) and grew up listening to Air Supply, which may account for the general vibe of cool running through this hutong hangout. Those that make the trip to his sleekly renovated space should expect excellent service and a very comfortable atmosphere. Feel free to request a movie or bring one along to be played on their big-screen TV. You¡¯re bound to end up spending a great deal of your night here, pulling down great tasting snack after snack and chilled beer after beer.
