Pretty groovy cafe

Wagas - a pretty groovy cafe in Shanghai, and in my opinion, best for breakfast (7:30am-10am) or dinner (after 6pm). And why not lunchtime you ask? The amount of people having lunch meetings makes the place really crowded, the service weak, and the pasta overpriced.

Breakfast items are priced between 10rmb and 24rmb, which makes them comparable to the bustling Starbucks near by, but with a far superior quality. For dinner, most pasta dishes are sold for 28rmb. Don't leave without trying the Penne with Tuna & Pesto, really delicious - and it could almost be mistaken for authentic Italian (!).

For the sweet tooth: if you want to have really good cake in Shanghai don't miss a slice here. I can safely say this is the best cake in the city so far (besides a few 5-star hotels). Also, try the crepes (after 2pm) - A French lifestyle in the heart of Shanghai, and a bargain at just 15rmb! Of course, the menu offers a lot more - healthy salads, sandwiches, Ciabatta Burgers (dinner only), Panini, and wraps.

All in all, Wagas is a nice place to hang out after some decadent Nanjing Lu shopping. Although the food is not too pricy, the fact that you have to order at the counter is really annoying. Furthermore the drinks are really expensive compared to the food: from 15rmb up to 36rmb.

Nowadays there are 5 Wagas outlets sprinkled over the city, with a pair in Pudong, a pair in Puxi, and one in Hongqiao. Wagas leaves other comparable venues behind: nice atmosphere, cheap dinner pasta deals, WIFI, and a food quality which is far beyond normal American cuisine.
