One night in Beijing

One night in BeijingNamed for the song "One Night in Beijing" made popular by Taiwanese pop star Shin (who happens to be a friend of the owner), this classy watering hole in the basement of the Jinglun Hotel is trying to provide a memorable night out in Guomao.

While presently an otherwise dry area, One Night is at least a step in the right direction. Cocktails range from RMB40-50 and beers run from RMB25-50 each. The design of the floor, which the bar shares with the unfortunately named restaurant "The BJ Room," is exceptionally sleek and features a Star Trek-like set of sliding entrance doors, comfy sofas and mood lighting. Try the bar's house drink, the "One Night in Beijing," (RMB50) which should be called "The Jolly Rancher" because it's about as sweet with about as much alcohol.

At present it's mainly hotel guests who wander in, but with a local DJ kicking out techno and Guomao adding nightlife venues faster than anywhere else in the city, expect things to pick up.
