Simply fish at JWLast Thursday afternoon we were invited to sample "Simply Fish", a special promotion running until Nov 30 at JW's California Grill, located on the 40th floor of the hotel.

This is not only for piscatorians: The menu offers fresh Salmon, Turbot, Sea Trout, Halibut and other yummy-fishy things - but steaks and similar are still available on the ordinary menu. You can build your own dish or you may want to go for the Chef's proposals, all of which sounded quite nice. Being indecisive enough to work out our favourite combination of fish, cookings, sauces and sides, we went for the Chef's creations, selecting the Iced Shrimp Cocktail for starter followed by Seared Salmon on Caramelized Asparagus and Fennel, as well as for the Crispy Skin Sea Trout with Chilli Jam and Coriander Pesto.

While the Iced Shrimp Cocktail turned out to be surprisingly simple shrimps on ice with dips (certainly fresh and tasty, with no creative bite), the main courses were both excellent: the fish each cooked to perfect tenderness and especially the Sea trout was well matched with the tangy-sweet taste of the Chilli Jam. Make sure you try the fluffy potato mash - its whipped up with a generous spoonful of Mascarpone. Service is very friendly and attentive, but make sure your orders are well recorded and that you are not in a hurry.

JW's California Grill is open daily from 11:30am to 2:30pm and 5:30pm to 10:30pm. Prices for 2 courses are around 250rmb + 15% service charge.
