TheCrowne Plaza Fudanhas leapt into the Shanghai Sunday brunch arena with its own impressive spread featuring hearty brunch favorites such as lobster and diverse roast meats, alongside a range of English breakfast fare and an array of desserts-the bread pudding is especially welcome. Family-friendly, the Crowne's brunch package includes use of the outdoor playground, supervised children's activities, and that most vital kids'pacifier, ice cream. Jean Georgesis doing its part to encourage a more luxurious lunch culture in Shanghai with their new bento box express lunches: RMB 128 for any four items chosen from an extensive menu. King fish sashimi with green apple wasabi pearls; foie gras br?lé with dried sour cherries and candied pistachio, and the infamous Jean Georges chocolate cake all come highly recommended. Xintiandi favoriteShikumen Bistrois closing its doors, and owner George Chen has moved on to a new venture in a more visible venue. When its doors open in December, Chen promises live after-supper entertainment and a new menu. Meanwhile, one of many Xintiandi-inspired locales in the works is set for the Pudong financial center which will soon have a shikumen-style retail fantasy of its own at theLujiazui 1885 Culture Center. The folks who brought you a Future Perfect plan on launching the intriguingly namedSyzygyin Pudong's German Center next month. Not to be outdone, Elite Concepts is preparing its own wittily-named eatery, theNaked Cow, which will open soon at ZIN’s former location. The more the merrier.
