With the emphasis on exotic skins, pliant leathers and sexy silhouettes, fall and winter 2006 collections usher in a new season of urbane sophistication.

As the flirty looks of summer ebb away, the new looks from On Pedder this season are all about striking a balance between playfully romantic and edgy gothic.

For starters, the ankle boot is back, updated for the season with touches like weathered leather, brass side zippers and woolen cuffs at the ankle. Labels such as Repetto, Comme des Garcons-new to On Pedder this season-and Chloe offer up stylish footwear with a slight masculine flourish that could be a flat, calf-length boot with a chunky rubber sole and polished black skin.

In a continuation of all things retro, wedge heels are still strong, as are covered platforms and chunky heels with stitching details.

Other new footwear brands to watch out for include Les Prairies De Paris, Stella Mc- Cartney, Transparent and Rochas.

In bags, chain handles retain appeal. And for those wondering what is the hot new shape of the season, opt for either a small clutch or an oversized tote, from labels such as Sissi Rossi, Henry Beguelin,Shiro, Nuti or new brand Gryson. Other labels that On Pedder is proud to introduce this season include Sam Ubhi Vintage and Pauric Sweeney.

Throughout, the emphasis is on precious and exotic skins, which are a follow-through from spring. Patent leather dominates the fashion scene, rendered in gorgeous silhouettes and pretty patinas. Colours are brilliant and bold, and include red, cobalt blue and olive green, while metallics continue to hold their sway on the fashion landscape.

In other accessories, layered chains and necklaces are a trendy way to wear jewellery. The leather gloves can be worn cropped, as Madonna did in the 80s, or elegantly opera-length, as immortalized by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. For an unconventional way to wear Rolex, consider the customized collection by designer John Isaac.

Brands like Subversive, Erickson Beamon, Sonia Boyajian, Lulu Frost, Faraone Mennella, Dean Harris and Irene Neuwirth and Marisha Klass will have fashionistas talking all season.

In the meantime, On Pedder continues to grow across the region. New boutiques are planned in Beijing and Seoul for 2007.
